Up Dawg? privacy policy (draft)

Effective: October 4, 2026. Contact: getpaidtojoke@proton.me. Made by Royace (Phil), Tacoma, Washington.

The short version: no account, no ads, no tracking. Your alarms and history stay on your phone. The only thing that ever leaves it is an anonymous daily count that helps pay the comics, and you can switch that off.

What the app keeps, on your phone only

This history is not sent anywhere. You can share it yourself (Settings, "Share as a spreadsheet").

What the app doesn't do

No sign-up, no location, no contacts, no advertising IDs, no tracking, no selling data. The microphone is used only for "Laugh it off" (below), and only if you turn it on.

Laugh it off (microphone, optional)

If you turn on "Laugh it off" for an alarm, then after the punchline the app listens for up to a minute for you to laugh or boo, and uses that as your rating. The listening happens entirely on your phone, with a sound model built into the app (Google's YAMNet). Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere: only the last second of sound is held in memory while it listens, and the app keeps just the result (laugh or groan). The microphone is off the rest of the time, and Android shows its microphone indicator whenever it's on.

Permissions, and why

Paying comics

Comics are paid from what their packs earn, split by how often their punchlines are heard. To count that, "Help pay comics" (Settings, on unless you switch it off) sends one message a day with, for each comic's pack you heard the day before: how many punchlines you heard and how many you rated "laugh". Example: { "day": "2026-11-02", "packs": { "jane-doe": { "plays": 1, "laughs": 1 } } }.

That's all it contains: no name, account, device ID, advertising ID or location. Our counter (on Cloudflare) does not read or store your IP address and keeps no logs; it only adds the numbers to a monthly total per comic, so a single morning can't be picked out afterwards. Turn it off any time in Settings, "Help pay comics"; then nothing is sent.

Deleting your data

Uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your phone's settings. That removes everything on your phone. The monthly totals hold nothing that could be traced back to you, so there's nothing of yours to delete there.

Children

Not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the app will show the new version before the change takes effect.
